The movie takes place in a not-too-distant future where the White House is attacked by a group of heavily armed and well-trained mercenaries. The President of the United States, Benjamin Asher (played by Jamie Foxx), is taken hostage, and the Secret Service is either killed or captured. Enter our hero, Mike Banning (played by Gerard Butler), a former Secret Service agent who was dishonorably discharged after a tragic accident. Banning manages to infiltrate the White House and begins a one-man war against the terrorists.
