Dia (Madhuri Dixit), a professional choreographer living in New York, returns to her hometown of Shamli in India after learning her dance guru is dying. She finds that the historic Ajanta Theater , the soul of her childhood, is scheduled for demolition to make way for a shopping mall. To save it, she must stage a massive musical production of Laila Majnu using a motley crew of locals who have no professional training.
