Because of his insatiable greed for gold and grain, Hastar was cast out and forgotten by history—until the protagonist, Vinayak Rao, discovers a way to exploit the fallen god's curse. The narrative spans decades, mirroring India’s transition through the early 20th century, but the true "ghost" of the story is the generational cycle of greed that consumes Vinayak and threatens his son.
