Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) , widely regarded as a pinnacle of serialized science fiction television, has suffered from a lack of official high-definition remastering due to prohibitive costs and technical challenges. In response, between 2019 and 2021, a community-driven fan restoration project emerged, utilizing cutting-edge machine learning algorithms to produce an “S01 Ai Upscale 1080p” release. This paper documents the technical methodology, the aesthetic results, and the legal-ethical implications of this 2020 fan restoration.
