Before entering politics, Annie Besant made significant contributions to education. She realized that a strong nation required an educated youth. She established the Central Hindu College in Benares (Varanasi) in 1898, which later became the nucleus for the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) . She advocated for an education system that combined Western scientific knowledge with Indian cultural values, aiming to create a generation of self-reliant and proud Indians.
